1. A Pharmacy from the 1800s

Interestingly, in Sweden going to the pharmacy may feel like traveling through time. Visualise entering somewhere that has existed in the same location since the 1800s. Doesn’t that sound like it could belong in a history textbook? Well, that’s exactly the case with this amazing pharmacy in Sweden. Not only has it been a staple of the community for generations, but they also managed to retain all of the original decor too.

Can you picture it? Shelves heavy with old glass, vintage jars, and a soul in every corner. It’s like stepping into a live museum! Shout out where else can you do a quick errand and get a history lesson all at once? That’s part of the charm about Sweden much of its past is also reflected in its present, even in mundane locales such as pharmacies, cafes and shops.

Isn’t it amazing? Even an ordinary errand, like going to the pharmacy would become a step in history in a country so saturated with it. How many places can give you that? And how everyday tasks can seem extraordinary. Everyday life in Sweden becomes an extraordinary experience where past meets present and the beauty of everything is beyond words.

2. Home to the World’s Exclusive Taxidermied Blue Whale

Gothenbur in Sweden has the only land-based blue whale taxidermy on the planet. Yes, you won’t get nothing like this in any other place. Pretty cool, right? That is where it gets weird though this whale has a weird story.

The whale’s jaws were so gigantic that at one point visitors were actually invited to step into its mouth for a closer look. What an experience, huh? That was until a couple went “in bone” (if you will), inside the whale. You can guess what happened next the museum immediately closed Cryo’s mouth, leaving it open only for special events.

Now, if we can speculate here that the couple is still inside the whale… okay take it easy, just kidding! The jaw was kept closed, and they removed the whale’s dentures. But just imagine being the couple who made that moment part of museum history!

3. Donors in Sweden Get Notified When It Saves a Life

Among the simplest methods that can do wonders in someone’s life are blood donations. Ever wondered how simple throwing away a life saver could be? Plus, just think about whether you would ever want to receive a text message telling you that your donation made some folks life better… Pretty motivational, right?

And that’s what happens in Sweden exactly! When you donate blood, your blood among all other donated will be used and you receive text messages about it. How cool is that? Just a little reminder that your small act of kindness does make an impact.

So motivating that some people have already donated blood thrice, thanks to these messages! If they know it is making a difference, do you have any idea how much more likely people are to continue donating? No wonder Sweden never has a problem finding donors with such a system!! Other countries should follow their lead.

4. Their Road Signs Test Is Truly One of a Kind

In Sweden, the “not allowed in this car” sign is anything but typical. While most countries would use a simple red sign with a vehicle crossed out, Sweden had the great idea to get a bit creative. Imagine a red circle with a, yellow, center, a car flipped over, three people standing proudly over it, spears in hand. Wait, what? To you, does this resemble a scene from a Viking movie or a road sign?

It certainly does not shout “no cars allowed.” In fact, it looks more like a warning of an impending barbarian invasion than a peaceful road closure! What if you spotted this sign while driving would you have the slightest idea what you were to do with it? I mean, you’d probably turn around to see if it was Vikings waiting to suddenly invade, right?”

But you know, no matter what, the result is the same. No cars in there although you would certainly have a lot more interesting stories to tell if you were in Sweden. Sometimes, why just follow the rules when you can add a little bit of drama and flair to your signs? It’s a quirky, unexpected touch that makes Sweden stand out from the crowd!

5. Former Quarry Becomes Concert Venue

Sweden’s Dalhalla venue is an example of repurposing an old space in an innovative way. Once a limestone quarry, it has been turned into one of the most legendary open-air theaters in the world. Dalhalla is famous for its acoustics and is considered one of the best venues for music lovers. The sound is reverberating off the towering stone walls around you as you enjoy a concert like none other! The venue’s history gives it an air of mystique and character that makes it a different kind of concert hall.

Today, however, this old quarry is home to performers from far and wide and creates an unforgettable concert experience. Visions of an identical lifestyle there imagining a performance in an evnvironment that was once a continuation of the earth where sound and rock bounce off the air resonating in magnificent depth. The open-air nature of the venue only adds to the magic, with the night sky as part of the performance. It’s where nature and music live in perfect harmony.

What’s even more impressive about Dalhalla is how it highlights Sweden’s propensity to take something utilitarian and make it beautiful and useful. It’s a tribute to Swedish ingenuity, merging historical significance, architectural splendor and acoustics in one majestic setting. Important part of life on Earth – not just for water, but music, and if you ever have the opportunity, image sitting in the stars, breathing the echo of the music into a quarry. It’s an experience that’s difficult to beat!

6. Sweden’s Floating Complaints Box

In Gothenburg, Sweden, they have a complaints drop-off box but a little different. It’s not parked conveniently on a street corner or in a town hall. Nope, it’s bobbing around in the water, just a couple dozen meters from shore. Kind of odd, right? I mean, how are you supposed to drop a complaint in the mail if it’s in the middle of a body of water?

Now, here’s the thing: it could either mean one of two things. Maybe the people of Gothenburg are the happiest people on Earth and have no complaints to make at all, and so they actually don’t need a box. Or, and this strikes me as the more likely possibility, they were overwhelmed by complaints, and had no other choice but to dump the entire box into the water. Sounds like a perfect solution to me!

But let’s be real momentarily if we’re going to give Sweden the benefit of the doubt, we’ll say they’re probably a pretty happy bunch. Maybe they just got so tired of the complaints box that they decided to throw it out, because, after all, they don’t really need it. No complaints, no problem. Now that’s a chill we can definitely get behind!
